The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters Francisco de Goya This piece has been created with the aquatint process, creating a very dark, gloomy feel. The printmaking technique not only gives it a great texture but also is essential in creating the right feel to the piece. By using different tones and no colour, it creates a piece that creates the impression of darkness and the night time as well as creating a gloomy, horror feel with the monsters. Whilst this could be achieved with traditional painting, the raw, textured look caused by the print process gives it more character. I am a particular fan of the typography and how the edges aren’t perfect. It feels as if it has been warped or is moving in some way. Posted by Simon
