A fantastic 2 colour screen print from Monkey Ink Design. There is a great use of texture and patterns to create quite a complex piece of design. I really like how the design makes you feel as if your looking up.

This design shows just how well simplicity can work. This is a two colour screen print from illustrator/print maker/surface designer Alanna Cavanagh. I really like how the design doesn’t use registration properly, causing the colour go outside of the shoe’s outline. The linework appears to have been done with ink loosely and this gives it a really nice effect and reinforces the handmade feel and approach.

Life Splicing No. 003: EXP

http://www.alienworkshop.com

A really good video from Alien Workshop showing the progress of a 3 colour screen print for one of their deck designs. What really stood out to me in this video was how much the design came to life once the black layer was put on.

This is also a nice video just to see the screen printing process in action and how they approach doing a multi colour print.

Dance Dance Dance - Ant Baena
http://deadface.co.uk/
A nice one colour screen print from Ant Baena. I really like the typography in this design and how it uses so many different typefaces. The background is very busy with all of the typefaces, but because of the way it’s laid out it doesn’t look messy and isn’t too distracting. The girl in the picture also splits the picture up nicely and creates a good focal point for the eye as it’s simplicity contrasts with the busier background.

Quite a quirky styling to this screen print, reminds me of old labels on food and drinks, with the typography choice and the colours.  There is a lot of detail and a lot going on, so you are never bored wen it comes to taking it all in.  I think the colours work together well, complimenting each other and none of them steal the limelight.  It is a strange use of imagery, giving the chicken human qualities, personifying it.  It kind of gives it a comic twist, something you don’t expect to see.

Promethean - Feral-Kid
http://feral-kid.com/
A stunning print created with the etching process. The style reminds me of something out of an old textbook and has a really dark, grotesque tone to it, caused by the print process. The raw, dirty texture created by etching creates a feeling of depth and adds tones and texture to the piece.

Obey

Another stunning screen print from the chaps at Obey.  This one is so easy on the eye, has it flowing around the visuals and taking it all in naturally.  I love how it is kept simple colour wise and is only kept to 2.  It adds character to it, makes it easier to take in and isn’t overly designed.  There are so many little things going on that you can’t help but pay attention to it for a long while.  I think the cheeky addition of the Andre the giant face right in the centre is a great addition, bringing it back down to earth and letting the viewer relate to the poster more.

The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters
Francisco de Goya
This piece has been created with the aquatint process, creating a very dark, gloomy feel. The printmaking technique not only gives it a great texture but also is essential in creating the right feel to the piece. By using different tones and no colour, it creates a piece that creates the impression of darkness and the night time as well as creating a gloomy, horror feel with the monsters.
Whilst this could be achieved with traditional painting, the raw, textured look caused by the print process gives it more character. I am a particular fan of the typography and how the edges aren’t perfect. It feels as if it has been warped or is moving in some way.

Saw these and just had to post them.  Borderline obsessed with the show, and these posters represent it very well.  They reflect the horrific look of the zombies, which shows how well the make up team on the show has done, to get them looking realistic.  The detail gone into these screen prints are fantastic, I can almost hear the horrible sounds of the zombies from the posters.  The one on the left I am almost sure is the zombie I disliked the most from the show, so gruesome and disgusting, makes me shudder even looking at these posters which shows how well they are illustrated.  A job well done!

guy Burwell

Truly inspirational and amazing this print by guy Burwell.  There is so much going on that you just have to look at it for a long time to take it all in.  I love the rough edges, makes it seem more hand made than it is.  It is screen printed but by the look of it, it was designed digitally.  The colours are breath taking, they remind me of the planet on the movie ‘Avatar’ really luminous and astounding, quite surreal.  The artist has really captured the essence of the mystery of space in this print, definitely worth a purchase.
