Monkey Ink Design

A fantastic 2 colour screen print from Monkey Ink Design. There is a great use of texture and patterns to create quite a complex piece of design. I really like how the design makes you feel as if your looking up.

Alanna Cavanagh
This design shows just how well simplicity can work. This is a two colour screen print from illustrator/print maker/surface designer Alanna Cavanagh. I really like how the design doesn’t use registration properly, causing the colour go outside of the shoe’s outline. The linework appears to have been done with ink loosely and this gives it a really nice effect and reinforces the handmade feel and approach.

Dance Dance Dance - Ant Baena
A nice one colour screen print from Ant Baena. I really like the typography in this design and how it uses so many different typefaces. The background is very busy with all of the typefaces, but because of the way it’s laid out it doesn’t look messy and isn’t too distracting. The girl in the picture also splits the picture up nicely and creates a good focal point for the eye as it’s simplicity contrasts with the busier background.

Quite a quirky styling to this screen print, reminds me of old labels on food and drinks, with the typography choice and the colours. There is a lot of detail and a lot going on, so you are never bored wen it comes to taking it all in. I think the colours work together well, complimenting each other and none of them steal the limelight. It is a strange use of imagery, giving the chicken human qualities, personifying it. It kind of gives it a comic twist, something you don’t expect to see.

Promethean - Feral-Kid
A stunning print created with the etching process. The style reminds me of something out of an old textbook and has a really dark, grotesque tone to it, caused by the print process. The raw, dirty texture created by etching creates a feeling of depth and adds tones and texture to the piece.

Obey

Another stunning screen print from the chaps at Obey. This one is so easy on the eye, has it flowing around the visuals and taking it all in naturally. I love how it is kept simple colour wise and is only kept to 2. It adds character to it, makes it easier to take in and isn’t overly designed. There are so many little things going on that you can’t help but pay attention to it for a long while. I think the cheeky addition of the Andre the giant face right in the centre is a great addition, bringing it back down to earth and letting the viewer relate to the poster more.

Shepard Fairey
Absolutely immense screen print this, from the genius designers at ObeyGiant. The pattern in the background brings the poster to life and keeps the eye staring for longer. It is so intricate and detailed that you just have to admire the effort gone into the print. The colour is almost blood red, which is reminiscent of the gun on the figures back, the 2 go hand in hand and echo off each other. The colours and the way the man is facing makes it hard to tell whether it is a soldier or another type of gun wielding man, and that adds mystery to the poster, keeps the viewer guessing.

Danny Askar

Found some work by Askar which is brilliant. You might not like retro games (if so your mad) but you can’t deny that this is a quite a different approach to silkscreen. How you ask? Well besides the fact it doesn’t go the standard poster size it glows in the dark! It works nicely because of the conttent of the poster giving it a little bit of an arcade machine feel. Pop on the website to have a look at how the poster looks in the dark.

Simon Misra
An eye catching screen printed poster for Death Cab for Cutie that really catches the eye. The hand drawn type gives the poster character and works really well with the rest of the design. The tiger really jumps out at you and its angled body guides the eye down to the bottom of the piece. I particularly like the division of the header and body of the print, created by having two very different background colours.

Saw these and just had to post them. Borderline obsessed with the show, and these posters represent it very well. They reflect the horrific look of the zombies, which shows how well the make up team on the show has done, to get them looking realistic. The detail gone into these screen prints are fantastic, I can almost hear the horrible sounds of the zombies from the posters. The one on the left I am almost sure is the zombie I disliked the most from the show, so gruesome and disgusting, makes me shudder even looking at these posters which shows how well they are illustrated. A job well done!
