A fantastic 2 colour screen print from Monkey Ink Design. There is a great use of texture and patterns to create quite a complex piece of design. I really like how the design makes you feel as if your looking up.

This design shows just how well simplicity can work. This is a two colour screen print from illustrator/print maker/surface designer Alanna Cavanagh. I really like how the design doesn’t use registration properly, causing the colour go outside of the shoe’s outline. The linework appears to have been done with ink loosely and this gives it a really nice effect and reinforces the handmade feel and approach.

An eye catching screen printed poster for Death Cab for Cutie that really catches the eye. The hand drawn type gives the poster character and works really well with the rest of the design. The tiger really jumps out at you and its angled body guides the eye down to the bottom of the piece. I particularly like the division of the header and body of the print, created by having two very different background colours.

A beautiful one colour print which reminds me of the magic number optical illusions. I feel it is my interest in patterns and shape which drew me to this piece. However, I was also particularly intrigued by how tone has been created by having outlines of shapes contrasting with filled shapes. This technique is particularly useful bearing in mind screen printing multiple colours is more time consuming and expensive. It is an interesting alternative to halftone.

I spotted this beautiful screenprint via Behance. What struck me was the effect the use of angles had on guiding the eye around the design. It appears the grid works both vertically, horizontally and at a 45 degree angle. Keeping to this grid creates a consistent feel throughout the design and also forces the eye to snake down the design.
The colour palette is limited but powerful. The intense orange and green literally jump out from the greyscale background. It also creates a layered feel which links nicely to the layered element of screen printing.

Here is a bit of work by Jeremy Fish.  I like his illustration style but the thing that really drew me to this particular image is the way that he has drawn hand, as everyone knows it is a nightmare to draw hands but he has managed it well. It’s good how the patterns on the side keep the balance of the image and the idea of using the hands to create the bird mimicking one of those things you did as a child, making silhouettes out of you hands. Clever idea.

Here is a lino print by artist Chris Bourke. First off the roses are really nice and a lot of detail has been put into it, I imagine it has been done by pencil crayon or even water colour which I believe he works with either way it is a great example of mixed media in print making and by adding this it gives the image an incredible amount of depth as apposed to just a standard black and white lino. The detail of the lino cut itself is great and the wood effect cloud shape looks brilliant and the image all together leaves me wondering how he actually did it.

Entangled Roots

Here is a little screen print patch from Entangled Roots. The tattoo Machines itself looks nice with good detail to it. My favourite bit has to be the typography used which I am presuming is hand drawn. It comes in white and brown fabric but I would have to go brown which works very nice with the type. The idea of a patch is such a good idea in itself, quite simple but works well.

A fantastic poster created by many hours of drawing and then applied to screen printing to make multiple copies. There is a really nice use of symmetry, contrast, pattern and shape that makes this poster a real pleasure to look at.
